Canyoning Pyrenees Huesca Lleida Spain. Canyoning, also referred to as canyoneering, consists of travelling in canyons and gorges using a variety of techniques that may include other outdoor activities such as hiking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, rappelling, and swimming. In canyoning, there are techniques for horizontal progression, vertical progression, and water tactics. Most canyons in the Pyrenees require all of these skills. The Pyrenees are a canyoneer's paradise!
Canyoning
Canyons can be broadly categorized into two major types: wet or dry. A wet canyon has moving water and a dry canyon does not have moving water. Usually, moving water complicates progression but it does not necessarily mean that the canyon is technically more difficult. Most canyons in the Pyrenees are wet. Canyoning in the Pyrenees is absolutely spectacular, especially in the central Pyrenees in the provinces of Huesca and Lleida.
World class canyons exist here and in large numbers. Canyoneers make summer pilgramages to places like the Sierra de Guara, the valley of Benasque, and Ordesa National Park. Canyons of all difficulties and lengths can be found in the Pyrenees thereby providing enjoyment for people of all ages and skill levels.

Beginner
A great introduction to canyoning and perfect for those seeking their first canyoning experience. These canyons tend to be more open with little confinement, less verticality, few if any tight passages and ample escape routes. Some scrambling over rocks may be required. Simple rappels in an amenable environment and without any significant technical difficulties characterize canyons of this level. These canyons usually have moving water but without technical water movements. Beginner level canyoning is a great option for a half-day excursion with approximately 4hr of activity.
Intermediate
Intermediate level canyons are for those that have some previous canyoning experience. These canyons may be more enclosed and narrower than Beginner level canyons. Some technical rock movement is required, as well as scrambling over boulders and fallen trees. It's time to test those rappeling and technical skills to fulfill your expectations and enjoy the day to its utmost. Expect to spend 4-6hr engaged in the activity.
Advanced
Advanced level canyoning is for those who have ample technical and psychological experience with canyoning and for those who want to push their limits. Good physical fitness and agility are necessary. These canyons tend to be more enclosed with multiple tight passages and more complicated rappels. Almost always there is a lot of water and complicated water flow patterns. Many obstacles are found in these canyons and they can be a challenge for even the most seasoned canyoneer. You can expect to spend 6-8 hr engaged in the activity.
