Pyrenees Hut to Hut Hiking

Pyrenees Hut to Hut Hiking

Pyrenees Hut to Hut Hiking

This Pyrenees Hut to Hut Hiking trip is an unforgettable experience. Join Bigtime Aventura on this extraordinary 8-day guided hut to hut hiking adventure. In total, we will spend 10 days together on this trip which takes us through two national parks and two countries; Spain and France. This hiking tour covers 110km (70 miles) with 6040m (19,800') elevation gain and 6080m (19,950') elevation loss.

Accommodation

The Pyrenees have a rich mountain culture. Huts were constructed in the early 1900's. Some of these huts still stand today. Other very new and modern huts have been built since the turn of the century. During our trip, we'll stay in mountain huts on both sides of the border. We'll also stay at a hotel in the middle of the trip and we'll have a chance to rejuvenate with a spa treatment.

Food and Drink

There is a multitude of culinary delights in Spain and France. You'll see this at mountain huts as well. The huts provide nourishing meals for dinner. You'll notice the difference between the food provided in a Spanish hut and a French hut. Both are excellent but it's interesting to experience the differences in cultures and meals, even though we're in the same region of the Pyrenees.

The Hiking and the Region

The hiking is excellent. Endless spectacular views abound while hiking through two national parks (Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park in Spain and Pyrenees National Park in France). Furthermore, we'll see the highest waterfall in mainland France, the highest peak in the French Pyrenees, and the second largest glacier in the Pyrenees. This area of the Pyrenees is rich with flora, fauna, geology, and glaciology. During the entire trip we'll be in protected natural areas.

The entire time that we're on the Spanish side, we'll be within the borders of the UNESCO Ordesa-Viñamala Biosphere Reserve. Ordesa National Park is located within the eastern part of this biosphere. On the French side, we'll be in Pyrenees National Park. We'll also pass through yet another protected area on our journey, the Pyrenees-Monte Perdido UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Pyrenees are steep and rugged. If amazing mountainous terrain, protected natural areas, and varied gastronomy are your thing, don't miss this trip!
