The Costa Blanca region of Mediterranean Spain is a major European holiday destination. With plentiful sunshine and miles of pristine beaches and coves, it is one of Europe's premier tourist areas. Yes, there are many hotels, restaurants, and bars but the Costa Blanca really excels in its potential for active tourism. With all the mountainous terrain, there are hundreds of canyons in the Costa Blanca. Most of the canyons are dry year round because there is a lot of sunshine and not much rain. The Mediterranean climate provides quite stable year round weather therefore canyoning is possible all year in the Costa Blanca.

Canyoning Costa Blanca Spain, inland mountains

Summers are hot in the Costa Blanca. Most people opt for the beach, leaving the inland mountains fairly uninhabited. The spring and fall are great times to visit the Costa Blanca, with favorable temperatures for exploring the myriad of inland canyons. Winter is also a great time to visit the Costa Blanca, although the days are shorter and can be quite chilly, especially down in the depths of deep shady canyons.

The Costa Blanca is where the Betic Mountain Range dips into the Mediterranean Sea. There are several big peaks near the coast line. Several large walls of exposed rock are also in the region and several other massive mountains with large flanks. Canyons have been eroded through the soft karst limestone over millennia forming some incredibly sculpted slot canyons. For the avid canyoneer, erosion has provided natural playgrounds in these mountains. Many of the canyons have been developed for canyoning.
