Community of Valencia: Provinces of Alicante, Valencia, and Castellon

The Mediterranean region is known for it's mild year round climate. This is definitely true in the three provinces of the Community of Valencia. The province of Castellon in the north has an incredibly rugged interior with many canyons and long open beaches on the coast. Recently, Castellon opened a small but constantly expanding airport Castellon-Costa Azahar Airport. It is the gateway to exploring an amazing province full of surprises. The sheer rugged nature and sparse population in Castellon is testament to its distinct orography. If you want to get away from the masses of people, Castellon is the ticket. The town of Montanejos is the epicenter for outdoor adventure and rock climbing in Castellon. Peñagolosa Natural Park is also a wonderful area to explore with ample outdoor recreation. Read the Castellon blog for more information.

The province of Alicante in the south is very dry and has an absolutely enormous quantity of exposed and high quality limestone. Thus, rock climbing is king in this province. Most people fly to Alicante and take advantage of the impressive beaches and coves but if you want a little more excitement from your vacation there are myriads of opportunities for outdoor adventures here. See the Alicante blog for more enticing information.

The province of Valencia, in the middle, is a topographical mix of Castellon and Alicante. The city of Valencia is Spain's third largest city by population. There are long open beaches along it's coast and a flat basin around the city but a few kilometers inland is a playground for the outdoor enthusiast and adventurer with world-class rock climbing areas such as Chulilla.
