Non-technical Canyoning Castellon Spain

Non-technical canyoning Castellon Spain. We'll summer has arrived. It's hot in the Community of Valencia and what better way to cool off than to find a natural canyon full of water. There aren't too many of these in this dry region of Spain but if you know where to go you can find some real gems. That was the case on this trip. By late summer most of the water in this canyon is gone, dried up over the summer due to the heat and lack of rain. However, in spring and early summer this canyon's pools keep the water well, thus allowing us to enjoy this natural water park.

This non-technical descent is a great one. Non-technical means that there is little to no rope work necessary. With the deep pools and slides we can simply jump, down climb, or slide our way down without needing to rappel. It's a fun excursion and apt for beginners or those that just want a relaxing day in nature.

Castellon, Spain

Castellon is the northernmost province in the Community of Valencia region of Mediterranean Spain. It sees far less tourism compared to the provinces of Alicante and Valencia. However, this gives it a more wild and authentic feel. There's less development and people in Castellon so the experience is quite different compared to visiting big cities like Valencia, Spain's third largest city. Castellon boasts several beautiful long stretches of open beach along it's Mediterranean coastline. However, inland Castellon is quite rugged and largely undeveloped. This leaves the canyons and the mountains largely in their natural forms. Most excursions to inland Castellon are quite adventurous.

Non-technical canyoning

This particular canyon starts with a short walk through the river. Some boulder hopping then brings us to the first deep pool with several flat platforms above the pool. Pick your poison and jump! As we make our way downstream we encounter several deep pools, all of which we can jump into and then swim across. There are also areas of narrow passages to squeeze through, some slides that deposit us into deep pools, plenty of hiking through the river and even some deep water soloing on the underside of a huge chocked block. The deep pool underneath is your protection as you give it your all to climb the overhanging face. A real treat for those that enjoy rock climbing.
