Castellet Canyon Tous Valencia is a fun, easy, and short canyoning activity. There are 4 rappeles in this small canyon, R1 8m, R2 8m, R3 24m, and R4 8m. The best way to access this canyon is by going up the adjacent via ferrata. Read our blog on the Via Ferrata Fuente del Chorrico. A combination activity of the via ferrata and the canyon is a great way to spend a day in this beautiful area. In the summer a refreshing swim in the reservoir tops off an enjoyable day.
Access and Rappel 1
Follow the approach described in the Via Ferrata Fuente del Chorrico blog. From the top of the ferrata turn east (to the right) and follow the trail around the edge of the canyon. You will pass the cairns that mark the alternative descent for the via ferrata. Continue for about 3 min of flat hiking until you reach the beginning of the canyon. There is an abrupt 8m drop into the canyon, this marks the first rappel. There are two bolts on the rock. Be careful accessing the first rappel.
Rappel 2
Once you do the first 8m rappel, now you are in the canyon. Escape is possible around the corner and to the left but it is a little complicated. It's best to just continue in the canyon and finish the 4 rappels which end at the Fuente del Chorrico. Walk about 70m until you reach the second rappel. The best approach to two bolted anchor is around the block to the right. From there, the second rappel is a vertical drop of 8m. You pass a fig tree while rappeling. If you're lucky, there'll be some ripe figs for picking.
Rappel 3
After walking another 40m you reach the third rappel, which at 24m, is the longest of the day. The anchor has two bolts on the slab. Be careful accessing this anchor. A safer option is to set up a fixed line. There is another two bolt anchor on the edge of the rappel. It is easy to access because you are still flat ground and haven't reached the drop off yet. Set up your fixed line here and then proceed to the main two bolt anchor on the slab. The fixed line will be about 4m long and provides the rest of your group with a safe alternative to reach the main anchor from where you will rappel. This rappel is mostly down an inclined slab and then reaches a flat area below.
Rappel 4 and return
Almost immediately from the bottom of the third rappel is the anchor for the fourth and final rappel. Two bolts are found up and to the left. Be careful accessing this anchor, you will need to climb up the slab about 3m to gain access to the anchor. Then rappel 8m to the shady bottom behind a large boulder. From here, simply scramble down a few more meters and you'll arrive at the Fuente del Chorrico, a small natural spring coming out of the rock. Take some time here to refresh before following the trail around the reservoir and back to the parking.
Guiding via ferratas and canyons
Join Bigtime Aventura for a guided excursion of the via ferrata, the canyon, or both. An important point is that guiding a via ferrata falls under the auspices of a rock climbing guide while canyoning needs to be guided by a canyoning guide. These are two separate certifications and run by distinct mountain guiding professionals.
One of many defining characteristics that make Bigtime Aventura special is that we have Valencia's only Spanish Mountain Guides Association guide that is certified in both rock climbing and canyoning. Help protect the mountain guiding profession from fradulent, unauthorized, unqualified, and unprofessional practices. Contact us today and we will happily guide you on the via ferrata, the canyon, or both activities. Hope to see you soon in the mountains!
