Canyoning and Via Ferrata Pyrenees
Canyoning and Via Ferrata Pyrenees
Canyoning and via ferrata Pyrenees, it doesn't get much better than this! The Pyrenees are an incredible mountain range, spanning nearly 500km (300 miles) from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. They form the natural border between Spain and France and even include the small landlocked country of Andorra. Geologically the Pyrenees have an incredible history and were formed from tectonic plates crushing together. These massive forces are clearly seen in the steep gorges, canyons, and peaks. Luckily for adventure seekers, these provide innumerable opportunities for outdoor activities such as canyoning and via ferrata.
Canyoning Spain
The Pyrenees may be the best place on the planet for canyoning. It's a bold statement but once you experience the canyons here you might just agree. Deep gorges with steep walls predominate and characterize canyoning in the Pyrenees. However, there are also high alpine canyons that are more open with beautiful views over the mountains. There is something here for everyone, both in style of canyons and difficulty. Summer (June-September) is the high season for canyoning. Summers in Spain are hot and wet canyoning in the Pyrenees is probably the best way to cool off and enjoy stunning scenery that you wouldn't see otherwise. The French Pyrenees are home to some incredible canyons as well. France has a longer history of mountain sports and mountain culture compared to Spain. This includes canyoning. In Andorra there is also wonderful canyoning.
Via Ferrata Spain
Spain has an incredible array of via ferratas. Most via ferratas in Spain tend to be short in duration but athletic in nature. The majority of via ferratas can be completed in a few hours however there are some longer via ferratas that may take up to a full day to complete. There is so much high quality exposed rock in Spain and the Pyrenees that there are hundreds of existing via ferratas and thousands of potential places for new development. Spain is a paradise for mountain activities and the Pyrenees are the center of the action. The via ferratas in the French Pyrenees are also amazing. Likewise, there are a handful of via ferratas in Andorra that are well worth a visit.
