Multi-pitch Rock Climbing Pyrenees
Rock Climbing Pyrenees
Multi-pitch Rock Climbing Pyrenees. Rock climbing in the Pyrenees is world class. The quantity and quality of rock here is simply staggering. Some of the world's hardest climbs are found in the Pyrenees and the foothills of the Pyrenees. Famous sport climbing crags like Oliana and Santa Liña are here. Besides hundreds of sport crags, there are also hundreds of places for multi-pitch climbing, including several big walls in the high Pyrenees. Most of the rock in Spain is limestone but there are several areas in the high Pyrenees with beautiful granite walls.
Multi-pitch Rock Climbing Pyrenees
Multi-pitch Rock Climbing Pyrenees. Several multi-pitch climbing areas in the Pyrenees are easily accessible by car followed by a short approach on foot. Many of the best multi-pitch areas in the high Pyrenees require some effort to reach and once you get there you'll want to take advantage of the incredible climbing. Therefore, the multi-pitch rock climbing trips in the Pyrenees that are offered by Bigtime Aventura are multi-day outings.
Two days of climbing is an ideal amount of time and we will be able to climb some wonderful routes on some amazing walls. Between the two days, we will sleep near the wall usually setting up a bivouac. A few areas have a fully serviced mountain hut nearby and in those cases, we will use their facilities to eat and sleep. Two days should be enough but of course if you want to climb more we will can extend the trip for as many days as you'd like!
In addition to the Pyrenees, Rich, the guide and owner of Bigtime Aventura also spends quite a bit of time in the Mediterranean region of Spain. If you're interested in some multi-pitch rock climbing with lots of sunshine check out our multi-pitch rock climbing in the Costa Blanca region of Mediterranean Spain.
Other activities in the Pyrenees
The Pyrenees aren't just about rock climbing. They are an incredible mountain range with an enormous amount of outdoor adventure possibilities. Take a look at some of the other activities Rich offers in the Pyrenees. Combine your multi-pitch rock climbing trip with one of more of the following multi-day trips:
- Ridge Climbing. This is a fun compliment to multi-pitch climbing in the Pyrenees and it is an advanced activity. Usually the climbing is less technically difficult, however, the terrain is high mountain and can be very exposed. These are long days out and usually involve a bivouac the night before starting the ridge. Some ridges are so long that they can take two days to finish with a bivouac halfway along the ridge line.
- Hut to Hut Hiking. There are many huts in the Pyrenees and connecting several of them during multiple days is a great way to explore this mountain range. Join Bigtime Aventura for a hut to hut hiking trip in the Pyrenees.
- Canyoning and Via Ferrata, Summer's are hot in the Pyrenees. Canyoning is a great way to cool off. Rappel down waterfalls and jump, slide, and swim in large watering holes. Combine a few canyons with some via ferrata's for an exciting multi-activity adventure in the Pyrenees.
- Hiking and scrambling adventures to reach the highest Peaks of the Pyrenees. These multi-day adventures include an overnight bivouac or sometimes sleeping in a nearby mountain hut. Come enjoy the high peaks of the Pyrenees through semi-technical routes that include hiking and scrambling to reach 3000m summits.
- In the winter, you may be able to combine multi-pitch rock climbing with snowshoeing and igloo building, where you snowshoe during the day and sleep in your own self-built igloo at night!
