Spanish Pyrenees Multi-Adventure 10day-Trip. We are in the incredible Pyrenees mountain range again for some more action-packed guided outdoor vacations! This time I'm with an adventurous group from California that is looking for some physical challenges and to see the natural beauty of the high central Pyrenees. On this trip, we will be doing several activities on the Spanish side of the border. Even though we'll spend the entire time in Spain, everyday we have views of peaks in France and we'll straddle the border during a few days of our hiking route. The activities that this group wanted to do were hut to hut hiking, rock climbing, canyoning, and via ferrata. Not a problem because all of these activities are prevalent in just about every corner of the Pyrenees. So off we go!

Canyoning

Canyoning in the Pyrenees is absolutely awesome! There's no other way to put it. The geological formations are simply spectacular. Deep canyons cut through limestone rock provide amazing possibilities throughout the range. In the central Pyrenees, each valley is full of canyons so there are no shortage of canyons to descend. We spent a few days canyoning in some of the best beginner canyons in this region. Replete with several rappels, jumps, slides, and swimming. What an incredible activity full of excitement, adrenaline, and fun. Sometimes fear can creep into your head as well, especially if you don't understand how to move through canyons or the risks involved. Via Ferrata

We also did three different via ferratas during the trip. Another exciting activity and an alternative way to summit a mountain or reach the top of a sheer wall of rock without needing to know the technical aspects of rock climbing. Scaling ladder rungs we made our way to the tops of all the via ferratas and enjoyed the mountains from a different view.

Rock Climbing

Spain is the mecca for rock climbing. It's famous for it's difficult sport climbing routes. Most of the hardest climbs on the planet are in Spain. However, only a handful of people can climb these hard routes, so what about the rest of us? Well, there is so much rock in Spain that you would need several lifetimes to even visit all the crags. In the Pyrenees are there limitless places to climb. You really need to know the area in order to find crags where you can enjoy your level of climbing. On a vacation of 1-2 weeks you simply can't afford to waste time searching for climbing areas. That's another reason to hire Rich. It was the first time that this couple climbed outdoors and they just couldn't get enough of it. We climbed until the sun went down, taking advantage of the long summer days.

Hut to Hut Hiking

Finally, we hiked over 100km and stayed at several mountain huts in the high Pyrenees. During these days we had time to swim in alpine lakes, cross glacial fed rivers, learn about the geology of the region, and see several birds, wildflowers, and large and small mammals that live in this rugged environment. The previous winter was a tough one and there was still a lot of snow in the Pyrenees. Therefore, we had to cross several snow patches and negotiate several tricky rocky sections. But this is all part of the fun of hut to hut hiking in the Pyrenees!

This was an incredible trip. We covered so much ground and did some many activities. Most of the activities were new to this group, never having done them before.
